Incense
Tibetan incenses
are specially made from a combination of
between 24 and 100 different herbs, woods, crushed
gemstones, spices and minerals. The ingredients
are carefully dried and then ground down and mixed
into a paste. This is then squeezed and shaped into
long sticks, which are then cut and dried. Incense
recipes specifying the exact nature and amount of
each ingredient were said to be formulated at the
time of the Buddha around 2500 years ago. They were
taken, along with the teachings of Buddha to Tibet
and the craft of making incense was established
by the monastic community. Since the invasion of
Tibet by China in 1951, the ancient craft of incense
making, together with the original recipes on which
it is based, is now mainly practised by Tibetan
monks, nuns and refugees living in India and Nepal.
These
incenses are used for a multitude
of purposes, from an offering to the Three
Jewels; to stilling the mind and a relaxation and
meditation aid; to healing physical and mental disorders;
alleviating stress and insomnia through to warding
off negativity. They of course also make for a great
air freshener and room refresher.
We have
selected a special range of 100% natural
healing incenses, which have all been made
according to traditional recipes and methods. These
incenses are non-toxic, non-addictive and have anti
choking properties. A fantastic selection for both
the incense connoisseur and amateur alike.
