Tibetan Tingshas
History
and Uses:
Tibetan Tingshas – (Otherwise known as meditation
bells, Tibetan Cymbals and Tibetan Bells) are hand
cast by Tibetan artisans using methods passed down
through the generations.
Tingshas have
been used for centuries in Tibet by Tibetan
Buddhists in preparation for meditation.
Today these are often to be found within yoga and
meditation classes alike, whereby they are used
to start and end a session. When the two cymbals
strike each other they produce a clear,
pure, cleansing sound, which can be used
to focus the mind before or after meditation.
The Tingsha
creates a meditative vibration for use in meditation;
however it is more commonly used for calling one
forth into the here and now, especially when ending
meditation or even massage / reiki healing. The
striking sound of the Tingsha has the ability to
call one forth as well as clearing any disturbing
energies in the moment. The Tingsha brings
clarity and spaciousness to any space and dispels
negativity. Traditionally some practitioners of
Feng Shui use Tingshas to cleanse a new home.
How
to use:
Hold the Tingsha with both hands using the leather
strap. Chime the two cymbals together to hear the
sound resonate. In order to stop the chime, simply
bring your hands down slowly sliding them through
the leather strap to cup one bell in each hand.
The sound will now stop.
